The book of James (James 1:26-27)
The last several weeks we have been studying the book of James. It has been very good for me to understand all the biblical principles found in the this book. Tonight we will be studying the last two verses of chapter one. While studying the passage last night I noticed something very interesting. In verse 26 the Bible speaks of the one who thinks they have true religion but they have a corrupt tongue. The Bible says he decieves himself when he thinks this way. The word used here for decieve could also be translated "to cheat." What was entriguing was the fact that when one who thinks he is spiritual but has no control over the tongue he is not cheating anyone else but himself. He is cheating himself out of rewards, out of friendships, and relationships. In fact no one is ruined worse by his actions than himself. Have we been cheating ourselves out of what we think we have earned all because of an unbridled tongue. Let us determine by the help of God's Holy Spirit that we will imprison that serpant behind the bars of our teeth that we can be spiritual.
A New Begining
We have now been in Austin, TX for one month and the time has really flown by here. I am just beginning to start a blog for the first time ever! Hopefully this will be a way I can keep loved ones, friends, and the neighboring community up to date and how things are going here at Scenic Hills Baptist Church.
